The first recipe pairs the sophistication of a dry white with the sweetness of peaches and strawberries and the second pairs the tangy flavor of grapefruit with red wine and orange liqueur. Strawberry Peach Sangria
1 750-ml bottle dry white wine (vinho verde, crianza)
½ - 1 cup sliced strawberries
1/2 cup peach liqueur
½ - 1 peach, cut into 12 slices
1 large orange, cut crosswise into thin slices
1 large lemon, cut crosswise into thin slices
1/4 cup strawberry syrup (optional)
1/4 cup sugar (dissolved in hot water to make syrup)
seltzer water (if desired)
Preparation Mix white wine, strawberries, peach liqueur, peaches, orange slices, lemon slices, and strawberry syrup in large pitcher, smashing citrus slices slightly. Let stand at room temperature at least 2 hours or chill up to 4 hours. Serve sangria over ice with a splash of seltzer if you want. All ingredients can be varied to your liking, mix and taste!
Ruby Red Wine Sangria
1 750 ml bottle of red wine (a medium-bodied dry red wine like Garnacha or Tempranillo)
1/2 cup ruby red grapefruit juice
1/2 cup fresh squeezed orange juice
1 small lemon, 1 small orange, 1 small lime sliced thinly with rind on
1/2 cup Cointreau (or other orange liqueur)
1/4 – 1/2 cup sugar (dissolved in hot water, to taste)
seltzer water, optional
Preparation Mix together according to taste and let sit several hours or overnight. Serve over ice with some fruit, and a splash of seltzer.
